Speaker’s Bio

Dave Duarte is a marketing technologist and storymaker.

Recognised by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader at Davos, he has worked on the ground in 25 countries to build communities and movements that have reached over 1 billion people.

He is CEO at Treeshake, one of the world’s leading Advocacy Organisations, working on issues ranging from ocean protection and water conservation, to the adoption of new health-tech and energy-saving devices.

Passionate about learning, Dave chairs the Reach Trust, a non-profit that develops and manages mobile apps used by millions of South Africans to improve their literacy, numeracy, and employability. He is also a voting member of the academy of the Global Teacher Prize.

Previously, he was Programme Director at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business; headed up Creative Commons South Africa; founded and led the Ogilvy Digital Marketing Academy; and served on the Board of the Mail & Guardian news group.
